About This Quote

In the Lord of the Rings, Frodo Baggins is on a quest to destroy the One Ring so it cannot be used by Sauron, a Dark Lord who intends to overthrow Middle-earth and conquer all of its lands. At first, Frodo and his companions only want to destroy the Ring in Mordor, but they eventually discover that the Ring is too powerful to be destroyed by anything less than a balrog. It seems that no matter how hard they try, they cannot bring themselves to destroy this ring. Instead of destroying it as demanded, the Fellowship of the Ring decides to send it off into the distant lands of Mordor where it can never harm anyone. This decision comes with a price, however: Gandalf tells them that if they do not send it off quickly and far away from their reach, Sauron will find them and kill them all.
